The B.I.G. Weekend (Board Game Event) – Code of Conduct
Purpose
Our goal is to create a welcoming, fun, and safe environment where everyone can enjoy playing games together. By participating in a B.I.G. Inc. events and activities, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and to help us create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
1. Be Respectful
- Treat all players, staff, volunteers, and guests with kindness and respect.
- Harassment, discrimination, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Respect differences in experience, skill level, background, and identity.
2. Play Fair and Be Sportsmanlike
- Follow the rules of each game and play honestly.
- Be gracious whether you win or lose.
- Avoid excessive rules-lawyering or behavior that disrupts others’ enjoyment.
- All resources, activities, hosted sessions, event materials, and partnerships must be shared with all participants.
3. Inclusive and Welcoming Environment
- Use inclusive and appropriate language.
- Do not make jokes or comments that could make others feel uncomfortable or unwelcome.
- Be patient with new players and help them learn when appropriate.
4. Respect Property and Space
- Handle games, components, tables, and venue property with care.
- Clean up after yourself and return borrowed games or materials.
- Respect personal space and boundaries.
5. Appropriate Behavior
- No aggressive behavior, threats, or intimidation.
- Follow all venue rules and staff instructions.
- Any form of cheating, vandalism, or disruptive behaviour may result in removal from the event.
6. Safety and Reporting Concerns
- If you feel unsafe or witness inappropriate behaviour, report it to an event organiser or staff member immediately.
- All reports will be taken seriously and handled respectfully.
7. Personal Responsibility
- You must take responsibility for your own actions and if required the consequences to your actions.
- We expect all members and attendees to behaving in a way that’s respectful and follow B.I.G. Inc’s Code of Conduct
- If you witness any behavior that you believe violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to speak up and report it to a B.I.G. Inc organiser, staff member, or volunteer.
8. Attendance of Children
- B.I.G. Inc welcomes children to our event and activities, but we ask that their children are always supervised by a parent or guardian.
- The Venue requires anyone under the age of 18 to be supervised at all times.
- While several committee members hold Working With Children Checks, we assume no responsibility for unsupervised children, and make no guarantee that the committee will continue to hold WWCC in future
- We expect all attendees to create a safe and welcoming environment for children, and to refrain from engaging in any behaviour that could be reasonably construed as harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate for minors.
- Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that their children understand and adhere to this Code of Conduct, and for addressing any unacceptable behaviour that their children may engage in.
9. Consequences
Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in:
- A warning
- Temporary removal from an activity
- Removal from the event without refund (if applicable)
Event organisers reserve the right to take appropriate action to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.
